For forty somethings, which is a better moisturizer for summer- Aloe Vera Gel or Sunflower Oil?

Allow me to indulge again on my love for moisturizers. It's been a year since I started my personal blog about makeup and skincare. Born out of my love of writing and maybe a little of mid-life (aging)  issues going on.

I have to admit  adhering to a specific skincare regimen somehow helped me address skin aging on a more positive approach. I think it is deeply ingrained in a woman's psyche that want to feel young even if chronological age goes against that want.  Who else can relate?

As in my previous blogs, I've been lavish in praises for Human Nature's Sunflower Oil which is gentle enough to be used on the face and  body. Somehow knowing it's free of  harmful chemicals because it's made of natural ingredients, makes me generous in its application.  'Cause a mature skin like mine definitely needs all the moisturizer help it needs.

However on the side, I've also been using a number of brands made with Aloe Vera Gel. The one that's popularly wanted by other makeup and skincare bloggers.

I tried the product with 92 percent Aloe Vera, and recently the 99.85 percent Aloe Vera for months.    Frankly I didn't know such diff'rence in numbers also bear varying results upon use.

The first one is a thin watery gel consistency that's easily absorbed by the skin (at least on me upon use) .  It's good and smells nicely too for use all over -face and body.  Showed no irritation or reaction whatsoever in my months of use.

Thus after trying the 92  percent-based aloe vera  as my facial moisturizer with favorable after-effects, I'm happy with the product.  My skin felt younger and smoother though sometimes the effect easily wears off after a few hours),  you just have to reapply.

After this, I got a
nother tub this time-- I tried the 99.85 percent made of aloe vera of another brand.  At first glance, this type looked clearer and the consistency is thicker than the first one.  But it's still absorbed by the skin albeit you'll feel a little stickiness especially if you apply it all over your skin.

But the effect is quite better as the skin looks more nourished and younger-looking upon use (it's evident at first impression). Thus I have come to give the aloe gel my vote of trust because it makes my skin moisturized especially if I apply it on regularly, at least twice a day.

So which type of moisturizer do I think is better for my forty something skin?

I 've been using  the sunflower oil and I can attest to its many benefits. It's not just good as a moisturizer,  I also use it as a before bedtime nourishing oil,  or  use it under my makeup, before applying my tinted moisturizer or as a primer for my makeup.

The only setback I see from using the sunflower oil just a minor one, is it can emphasize your enlarged pores if you "over apply"  daily.  For example you use sunflower oil generously as a primer  or you layer with heavy foundation. This habit when done consistently can overemphasize one's mature pores.

Hence I opine that if one wants to use sunflower oil, one should integrate it with another layer of moisturizer (Human Nature has a moisturizer which I wrote about previously),  just to get the optimum results from using the Sunflower Oil as a daily beauty oil.

The Aloe Vera Gel meanwhile, the good points for me -- is it can instantly make one's aging skin look younger (okay hold on to your expectations younger but it won't make you look like teens ladies :).  It makes the pores look finer and visibly smaller  at least aesthetic wise.  It makes the skin look refreshed and smooth.

So which one I think is better for summer use given the stress the sun imposes on a skin due to daily outdoor activity?

For me I prefer to use both:  apply the Aloe Gel immediately after taking a shower when one's skin is still damp.  Then a few minutes after, apply a sunflower oil (before bedtime skin care routine) to add another layer of moisturizer. I do away with the sunflower oil in my morning routine  (just for summer because I have oily skin) and instead proceed with Human Nature's Moisturizer.

For me this routine suits me well and my expectations.

What about you? What's your skin care pledge momsies this summer?
